It's time to start planning for spook day. I have 9, 6, and 4 year old girls. We're hoping to get out of the princess ballerina thing this year and do something a little more creative. We're NOT going to go drop a load for these costumes.
My sis-in-law took one of these green 4-foot accordion-flexing tubes that kids crawl through and attached it to the back of her 3-year-old last year, put antennae on her and she was a glo-worm. Genius.
If I had a boy, I'd so put goggles, a swim cap, and speedo pants on him and write Phelps across his chest with some fake gold medals to boot.
Share your creative, inexpensive Halloween costume ideas!

Bag of Jelly Beans
Get a clear garbage bag.
Get an assortment of colored ballons...lots of different colors. You'll need at least fifty or so to really make a good showing.
Fill them up so they are small and round.
Cut holes in clear bag just big enough for legs and arms to snuggle slide through.
Make sure top of garbage bag is at the neck.
Now fill the bag with the colored balloons and you can even put some on a hat for the kids to wear on their head.
To make sure the people get it write Jelly Belly's on the clear bag.
The can wear colored stockings to jazz it up.
Just make sure the garbage bag is pulled all the way up to the top of their thighs so they can walk comfortably.
Sitting is gonna be a problem....

Mad Scientist
Find a big huge afro or Einstein wig. No clown wigs. Get some black rimmed glasses. A labcoat. White pants/jeans and t-shirt.
Now get some fake eyeballs, gummy worms, a dolls head, rubbe tubing, stethascope, pens and a pocket protector.etc. Crazy assortment of things. It's fun to let the kids get in on what they think a mad scientist should have.
Get a big plastic container (round, like the one the cheese balls come in)
Put the crazy scientist things in the jar. Attach stras to the jar so that the jar becomes like a backpack for them to wear.
make a name tag that says Doc Crazy or Dr. Mad.
My niece actually even bought some rubber lizards and snakes and had them coming out of her hair and pockets of her jacket.
You get the picture....

Monkies
So oldest, Emma is almost two and her favorite animal is at the Moment a Monkey. So I was wanting to dress her and her 4 month old in Monkey costumes. Has anyone seen any monkey costumes around, our know of a good way to get one.
(oh and a cute monkey, not like any angry ape)

What fun!
I have made the Jelly Belly costume for my little sister: it looks great and is pretty easy to make. Very colorful and fun. Defiantly write Jelly Belly on the clear bag though. The way I did it was print the actual logo off fairly large and then trace over it with a magic marker. That way it looked like the real thing, but was super easy to do.
When I was younger, my poor parents probably wished I WOULD have worn a princess costume. I was Michelangelo from TMNT 3 years in a row when I was little. Eh, at least it saved my mom some money by wearing the same costume!
Awesome!
Mrs. Corn - You rock. Very creative.
I'll have to get my sis-in-law in on this one. She's made some great costumes for my kiddos since they were wee little. She could prolly help out with some ideas on the monkey, Beth. I bet there's some kind of Curious George get-up that could be done. The Curious George DVD has a "sketch George" feature at the end which might give you some ideas.
Rose, hilarious!
Fantastic ideas, peeps!
Keep em coming!

costumes
my friend just told me she went as the Red Sea as a little girl. she wore a jogging suit with a capital red "C" on her chest. I thought it was creative!
Costume
One year I was at my wits end and couldn't come up with a costume for my son that was still a toddler. Finally I decided I would color black around one eye and cut out a letter "P" and pin it to his shirt. He was a blackeyed pea!
Hilarious!
If only I could get away with those last 2!
