Get On Board! Train Ride.

Remember when the journey was more important than the destination?

Make it happen again by planning your next vacation by train.

Why train?
How about seeing parts of the country that few people see,
or having the freedom to walk the length of the train whenever you please,
or checking out the lounge and grabbing something to eat,
or having an actual bed to sleep in if it's a long trip,
or having the opportunity to stretch your legs in the small towns across america.

A few years ago I was attending school in Montana and instead of taking a plane home I decided it would be more fun to ride the Amtrak.....and I was right. Not only was I more comfortable than being cramped up in a tight plane seat, but it was way more exciting and relaxing at the same time. Although I couldn't afford a sleeper cabin, I had no trouble sleeping through the night because the seats were huge and reclined almost completely flat.

I started in Whitefish, MT, rode through parts of Glacier National Park and stopped in a handful or quaint countryside towns before I made it to my first destination - Chicago.
In Chicago, I met up with a friend and stayed a couple days to explore his city.

I hopped back on and headed toward D.C. where I had a lengthy layover, enough to take a good stroll through the Mall. Once back on board, I was headed to Lynchburg, VA, which was as close to home (Johnson City, TN) as I could get. Conveniently, I had another friend just a day or two out from ending his semester at Liberty University. He finished up and we rode back home in his car.

I loved it from start to finish.

When I lived in Vermont I used to take Amtrak quite a lot between there and Boston or NYC. Even took it all the way home to Greenville, SC once.

Loved it too. The ride from VT south is awesome because of all the countryside and small towns you roll past.

I wish we had a connection local to the TriCities. The closest that I know of is in the Greenville/Spartanburg, SC area. I think.

I'm adding this to my list. Good stuff, Johnny and Austin. BTW, Heisman hopeful Knowshon Moreno rode the train down from Jersey when he first visited Georgia. It's Saturday in the fall so I couldn't help throwing that in. And that kind of info will make you friends down in Savannah, Johnny.

Thanks for sharing!
