I've started biking the Buffalo Mtn trails recently and would like to know if there are any trail maps available. Last week I did one section of trail and was all excited til I found out it ended pretty quickly. Then I found a spin-off that looks like a hiking only trail that goes straight up. Point is, this whole thing would be better and probably safer if there were a good map out there somewhere.
Anybody know where I can get one?
And, if you're interested, I wouldn't mind riding with somebody in the mornings at first light so we can get to work. It's usually light enough to ride at about 7 now. That'll push back some til we change the clocks on November 7. Lemme know if you wanna do it.
Thanks,
Eric

Sunday Afternoons n Tuesday Evenings
I'm game.
BTW, I know there's a group of guys that rides up there on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. When I say Tuesday evening, I mean Tuesday night. They ride with head lamps. They're crazy. I can't keep up with them.

meeting place
It would be ideal to meet @ the fire tower road entrance. This is easy to find. Coming from JC, go past the ATV parking lot at the top and continue down the other side about 2 miles. The road and parking is on the left.

Thanks!
Great maps, Lee! Anybody know if any of the trails in Lee's link are suitable for MTN Bikes? (I've been doing sections that are further out Dry Creek Rd.)

Maps
Good maps Lee, but those are maps of the park area and if I am not mistaken, they are hiking trails.

Map (sorta)
This is the best I could do at making a map.
digitalfridge, rainey, and I rode some of Buffalo yesterday afternoon. It was unbelievably fun. I'm no expert, but rainey is, and he said the trails on Buffalo are as good as any in Asheville, the Smokies, etc. but we have the added bonus of not having near the traffic those places do.
We parked at the Fire Tower Road Parking Area on Dry Creek Road and huffed it up the fire tower road. It's a dirt, truck-accessible road. We only saw one truck up there yesterday. And, if I'm not mistaken, we only saw one other mtn biker. But these trails are obviously getting a lot of use.
Before we got to the fire tower, rainey took us off on some ATV/bike trail on the left. We ended up in a place called "Sandy Bottom". A few more twists and turns and we were on a single track called "Tom's Trail". Another single-track put us back out on Dry Creek Road between our parking area and the ATV parking lot and we coasted downhill on Dry Creek to our cars. (I know you can get to Sandy Bottom from the ATV parking lot on Dry Creek Rd. I did it about a year ago with some other fellas.) It sounds much easier in this description. And a lot less fun.
So, all I've done with this description and map is to tell you where we parked and how we got started. Other than that, you're on your own.
I'd love to do this again and would really like to make it a regular deal. Don't know if once a week is doable, maybe once a month.
Have Fun!
