I've been reading Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol online over the last few days. It's a pretty short read. Even if you know the story well, it's fun.

It hurts to know the ft founder has lost 4 christmas trees to gravity when his own brother is a profession christmas tree stand-er-upper. I work at a garden center that sells christmas trees. If a customer buys a tree from us and brings us their stand we will put a fresh cut on the tree and mount it for free. For those not wanting to get sappy at all we will delivery it, put it in the living room, and come back after christmas to pick it up. Between these services we cut and mount over 600 trees a year. If there is a problem with the tree standing up, it is usually the stand.

The Christmas tree went down last night. Major wreckage in the living room. Treasured ornaments shattered. I slept through it. Laressa said she woke up at 1 a.m. and thought someone was trying to get in the girls' bedroom window. She checked and everything looked secure. We woke up to an unpleasant surprise this morning.

Worst Christmas in 2 decades? How do we change?

I recently came across this headline, "Worst Christmas in 2 decades expected". It was meant to reflect the commercial side of Christmas, but it may be saying more about our society. I have been a continuing contributer to this nonsense by shopping at a feverish pitch on the 23rd and 24th of December, so I'm not pointing any fingers. I am asking, how do we change? What are some things you do or want to do to remind yourself of the meaning of Christmas?

Every family has at least one or two holiday traditions! Here's a few of ours:

My parents always let us kids open one present on Christmas Eve when dad got home from work. We would shake every single present until we found what we considered the "best one." The one we couldn't wait a minute more to open!

Our family does the whole draw a name to see who you're getting a gift for, and to make it easier for the buyer we share Christmas Lists. I think it's a lot of fun regardless of what I actually receive, and it's fun getting gifts that people are actually excited about.
The tricky thing is coming up with a list of worthwhile items, so I come to you to see what's what. If anything maybe we can pick up some great gift ideas from each other. Here's what I got so far.

Ideas for homemade Christmas gifts?

So, I'm looking for some super, creative ideas for homemade Christmas presents this year. In the past I've given gifts that I've made like, knitted dishcloths and scarves (and hats), painted glass ornaments, homemade paper stationary (this is TOTALLY fun), but I'm looking for some NEW ideas, or just your favorite ones!

Best place to buy a Christmas tree?

Any suggestions on the best Christmas Tree farm near the Tri-Cities (can be in VA or NC, too)? Or what about just a place on the side of the road selling trees? I always put up a fake one because of allergies, but I might just forget it this year and bring home a REAL tree! Maybe I'll put up both!
