Good Eats

My wife and I have lived here almost 8 months now. We've come across a few real good places to eat that you'll only find here in Savannah.

Date Night:
Local 11ten
www.local11ten.com
A fantastic restaurant using only local foods to make some really great dishes. They are just a block from Forsythe Park, so enjoy a stroll before or after your meal. Great atmosphere at a small restaurant.

Elizabeth on 37th

Another Unique Savannah restaurant set up in a classic Savannah Mansion in the Historic District. The wait staff is very good and the food is award winning.

I'll try and add more as we find them.

The Pirates' House is one of the coolest restaurants I've ever been to. (sentence ended in preposition, but I'm the founder and I don't care) It has like a 100 cool little rooms in a really old house that is reputed to have been a haven for the bad guys in the old days.

I think they said there was a tunnel leading from the house to the river so the persons of ill repute could sneak on in.

Fantastic desserts if you go for nothing else.

This is a great Tapas restaurant right on the corner of Broughton St. and Barnard St., in the heart of down town. The atmosphere is great with live Jazz music nightly. My favorite menu item is the Terra Cotta Cheese Plate, with warm gourmet cheeses, honey, garlic, fruit and bread. A great place to impress your date and enjoy a wide array of flavors. There's a perfect two person meal deal on the menu - 2 people dine for $50. Plenty to share a variety of flavors.

I recommend this be included in any and every trip to Savannah.

I guess the quintessential Southern Seafood here in Savannah would be Lady and Sons, but I haven't eaten there. I've only seen the lines stack up around the corner. www.ladyandsons.com

Here's a couple I have been to:

Uncle Bubba's
www.unclebubbas.com
This place was really good if your looking for southern seafood, fresh oysters and the like. I always got either the gumbo or the low country broil. This place is actually run by Paula Deen's Brother or Uncle or something - so some of the item's are supposed to be very similar to Lady and Son's

The Crab Shack
www.thecrabshack.com
This place is out towards Tybee Island, right on the water. It's a very down home type of place - nothing fancy. The food is very good, but i wouldn't call it healthy in the least. The low country broil here will feed an army.

I don't remember anything about it, cuz it was so long ago and I was just a young pup, but we used to have Crab Shack T-shirts.

They were cool.

The wife and I wound up winning the bid for an auction of a one nights stay at The Mansion On Forsythe, which we took advantage of just the other day.
It was an awesome couple of days. We cruised around town on our bicycles (the best way to get around Savannah) browsed some of the beautiful old homes for sale and rent (not that we can afford any of them) and then rounded out the night with dinner at Cha Bella.

I liked it alot. My wife claims it is her new favorite. She said her dirty martini was perfect as was the fancy cheese board we had for an appetizer.

The restaurant describes itself as organical, which we like. The food was amazing and if they truly are organical it should be healthy too. I add the grouper and she had the special of the night....Bass. Both were excellent and nothing was fried (which we've grown very tired off since many of the restaurants here are "Southern" sea food)

Price wise this is another high end place, we walked out with $100 bill which included a shared appetizer, two salads, two entrees and then the martini.

We had planned to scoot over to The Pirates House for dessert, but found we had no room left.

We just had the best breakfast at J. Christophers in downtown Savannah on the corner of Liberty and Abercorn.

Wow. I am completely satisfied and probably will be until 7 o'clock tonight.
